About the project
For the 2024 24HR Design Challenge, I responded to the prompt “So Many Colours, So Many Shapes, So Many Flavours” by creating a fictional retro roller diner called Sugar Rush 1982. The goal was to design a promotional poster that captured the excitement and nostalgia of an ice cream diner through bold colour, playful illustration, and vintage-inspired design.
Sitting front, center and pretty is our beautiful mascot for this poster design, sporting bubbly, pink hair and hypnotic green eyes. Here, she rocks Sugar Rush 1982's soft blue waitress dress, paired with matching roller skates and sparkling knee socks. Keeping with a more vibrant colour palette, utilizing the various colours seen in old retro-styled posters and bringing my style into the mix. Turning up the saturation to make these colours pop, instead of keeping to the traditional retro poster styles to bring out those colours. I wanted to keep the poster more stylized and bubbly, reflecting a sense of fun and enjoyment.
Bringing back a sense of nostalgia, and a wish to turn back time and experience the magical moment of a roller diner with sweet treats, Sugar Rush 1982 reminds you, "Life's sweet... With so many choices!"
